PHOTOVOLTAIC
BTU has participated globally in the photovoltaic industry since the 1990’s. BTU was a pioneer in the diffusion, APCVD coating and metallization processes. Photovoltaic (PV) technology is a clean energy alternative gaining tremendous momentum especially in today’s energy market where fossil fuel has negative impacts to our environment and the cost continues to rise.
Commonly known as solar cells, individual photovoltaic cells are electricity-producing devices made of semiconductor materials. PV cells come in many sizes and shapes-from smaller than a postage stamp to several inches across. They are often connected to form PV Modules that may be up to several feet long and a few feet wide. Modules, in turn, can be combined and connected to form PV arrays of different sizes and power output.
Solar cell manufacturing requires several thermal steps not that different from semiconductor manufacturing, an industry where BTU is also a market leader. These processes include diffusion, drying, coating and firing of the solar cell. BTU Provides thermal solutions for all of these process steps.
